RE: Ladder foot pulling away from back of 5er - DIY repair?

Or, use the ones for drywall that have the bit that expands when the screw is drawn up.

RE: Mounting Spare Tire

I did see in a Diesel Power magazine a while ago, a spare tire holder that attaches behind the tailgate (if you have a tailgate). The holder holds the tire and then when the tailgate is opened, it is able to be swung out beyond the edge of the tailgate. It appears to lie flat in the back of the truck. I have a hauler bed on my F550 so it wouldn't work. The main problem I see is that, however you have the spare, the tire and rim are very heavy to manhandle (not too sexist I hope). The system in the magazine advertisement was over $1,000.00 but appeared to be really sturdy. It has been suggested by some that you just have a tire and then just have the tire put on the rim when you have to replace a damaged tire. Many semi's carry spare tires not spare wheels due to weight.

Digital TV change over

If one has a digital TV currently receiving its signal through the usual RV antenna, will it require the converter box next year?

RE: Painting Exterior

Where would you plan to do the painting? In your driveway? If you use a spray gun you will get over-spray all over the neighborhood. My truck got covered in black over-spray from a guy spraying fifty yards away. You also can't control wind, bugs etc. Preparation before you paint is more work than painting and making sure the surface is clean before you start. It is too late once you start, trying to wipe away dust etc. As others have said unless you have done this before, I would say forget it. If you make a mess, how much will cost to undo the mess and have someone repait it? It sounds like your wife isn't too enthusiastic and you will have to live with her when it looks like sandpaper!!

RE: What is this switch for?

Maybe it's a switch to flash your rear turn signals as a 'thank you' like the semi's have, I think it's called an ICC swtich.

RE: is it ok to use drain cleaner

We use a hose with one of those sweeper nozzles (looks like the end of a firehose) put it in the drain and put a rag around it to keep the water going downward and then turn it on, the pressure cleans out everything. No chemicals etc. to damage the rubber rings in the valves. By the time the water goes into the tank its pressure has reduced so it doesn't damage the tank. Tank ABS is little more than 1/8" thick so it is easy to damage.

RE: Ethanol in fuel?

I have a part-time job as a courier and the owners require we buy our fuel at a Murphy station at Super Walmart, the price is about 2-3c cheaper than other gas stations but they have 10% ethanol. I have noticed I have to fill up slightly earlier than I did when using other gas without the ethanol. So I guess you save a few pennies then spend a few more because you fill up more!! I only work there!

Florida I-75 Exit 224

After a devastating tanker accident which badly damaged part of the highway just over two weeks ago, two sections of the road have been completely rebuilt and is open to normal travel. The repair cost about $1.7million and was completed three weeks ahead of schedule. SR301 which ran underneath is also open in both directions.:)

RE: Garmin mounting - vent - beanbag - windshield or other?

I have my Magellan mounted on a Bracketron permanent bracket that is attached on the side of the slot the radio in located in. I also have a permanent antenna on the roof of the truck. I ran all the wiring (permanent power, antenna cable and the Traffic antenna cable through a hole in the dashboard. Look at www.bracketron.com, they make all kinds of mounts.

RE: Not accepting credit cards

However with debit cards I have read they hold an amount way over the amount you actually put on the card until the bank pays them, this can one day or several days. However if like the Sunoco station has covered the card reader, you cannot use any card at the pump. So it would be logical to assume they wont take them inside the store either. However I am sure there are exceptions in every town.

RE: Not accepting credit cards

Pilot truck stop at exit 224 on Florida's I-75 charges an extra 6c per gallon for credit card purchases according to their big sign out front.

Not accepting credit cards

Went to the local Sunoco gas station to fill up my diesel truck, they no longer accept credit cards. All the pumps have the credit card area covered! They say they don't make enough money with credit card transactions!

RE: Wear and tear on your TT

Fulltiming in a Jayco 1998 Designer fifth-wheel bought new in April '98. On our second fridge, second water heater, second A/C ( second one has had new fan and is in trouble again), second inverter, third commode, second awning fabric plus had to have welding done on both support arms where they pivot, the pivot pin wore right through the metal, the Splendide washer/dryer has had new water valves and a new water shut off switch, a number of leaks where the front and end caps meet the roof. We loved they layout of the fiver that is why we bought it, but over all the coach work was bad no attention to detail. I know that most of the problems were not Jayco products but everything died after the warranty ended and no-one would help. The second Atwood water heater had two bolts welded to the aluminum tank that held on a cover for the electrics, during putting it into the coach, the one bolt just fell off. I had to ship it back to Atwood (expensive) and wait for a replacement, what made things worse they gave me the wrong address to ship to and then they couldn't find it when I wondered why it was taking so long to be sent back. Ended up they replaced it. Only item that honored the warranty!! Prior to this fiver we full-timed in a 1979 Globestar (no longer in production) when we traded it it still had all the original appliances! From what you see you would assume that we lived really hard, but we don't we have been careful with everything.

RE: Florida I-75 Exit 224 closed

I-75 is now open with reduced lanes by using the northbound side for a short distance. Speed limit is reduced too. Two lanes in each direction with concrete barricades separating the north and south lanes. Also according TV new this morning June 9 at 5 am, US301 underneath is also open with one lane in each direction. Bridge should be fixed by mid July.

RE: Florida I-75 Exit 224 closed

The truck driver aged 54, died on Saturday of his burns. I-75 should be open with obstructions by Monday morning, they are splitting the lanes of the northbound side into north and south to get around the bridge repairs.

Florida I-75 Exit 224 closed

Terrible tanker truck accident Wednesday afternoon, has closed the exit. Severe damage to the overpass. The truck fell off the highway and blew up underneath. SR301 is also closed in the area. Detours are SR64 and Moccasin Wallow to get around it. FHP says could be closed for days, weeks or even months!! Just in time for the hurricanes!!!

RE: HD Radio

Retired nuke ET. thanks for the input. I am still deciding how to add the system to my truck, don't want to rush it.

HD Radio

I just picked up an HD Radio on a clearance. Looks fairly easy to install. Anyone have an HD Radio? If you have one, how do you like it? Looks like quite a number of channels available on Florida's west coast. It is just another gadget I know, but with an I-Pod, Sirius radio, CD radio, CB, what's another techie thing!!! Next is a Scangauge ll and a tire pressure system like Pressure-Pro.
